The Palace Grounds:
The Palace Grounds, is the public park in Tuam, and has been described in the past as Tuams "jewel in the crown". It is situated, adjacent to the Palace Fields Estate, with direct access from the estate, to it. We are very lucky to have it so near us, as access to such a amenity its vital in our fast paced lives today.
The park itself is 12 acres in size and has approximately 3 miles of walkways, of straight stretches and many unforgiving hills. Situated on the far side of the park (closer to the town) is the Coral Leisure Centre, which has a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and holds fitness clases regularly. There are tennis courts to the rear, open to the public. Beside this again, there is a childrens playground, with many slides, swings etc... The walkways themselves surround the entire park, with two walkways through the park, all containing unforgiving hills for that challenge seeking walker and jogger, pushing themselves to their limits.
Many people use this amenity, whether as a short cut to town centre, to go walking, jogging, or just to chill and relax and take in the views on the many benches throughout the park. Its certainly a fantastic amenity to have on our doorstep, and having it so closeby there is no excuse but to use it.
Its important we cherish this amenity and use it to its maximum, as not many towns to-day have access to such a well kept public facility.
It costs nothing, to walk, jog, or chill and relax.
