The construction of the estate started in the spring of 2000 and was completed in five phases by the summer of 2007. J.J. Rhatigan and Co. were the contractors and developers. The estate comprises of 286 dwellings of mixed accommodation and size designed in a pleasant modern contemporary architectural style by Architects Simon Kelly and Associates. It is split into nine areas with as many greens and verges all of which are planted with trees and shrubberies.
The estate is located on the north east side of the city of Tuam in Co Galway and is conveniently located close to the city center. As well as the usual amenities afforded by its location, the estate is situated next to a public park into which it has direct pedestrian access. The park includes a modern leisure center, swimming pool and childrens playground area.
Palace Fields Residents Association was set up in April 2009, with the encouragement of the developer and has been growing in strength ever since. The Association holds ten monthly meetings a year, one of which is the Annual General Meeting held in February. Since the beginning a Neighbourhood Watch scheme has been put in place with the help of the local An Garda Siochana. Primarily, the Association is responsible for the green areas which extend to approximately 2 hectares.
